Right Eve is currently £2.99 on steam until Monday and it includes the 30 days too!!!
There have been loads of changes since the last trial i tried, and the tutorial has been massively streamlined, plus there are optional tutorials that kind of hold your hand a little bit longer.
I am going to give it a try as its so cheap and join the guys from EGC who are playing it.
Any takers?

Any takers? you know what rik, as beautiful a proposition this sounds i just know it will never materialize. while EVE online will always be the best MMO experience i will ever know, theres just too many games out there distracting us to actually get anywhere in the game. the point i'm trying to make is that every 6 months, someone goes "hai guyz, lets try sum EVE LOLZ" and we'll have 1 or 2 great moments of MMO action only to never return again for 6-7 months, thus completing the 'EVE installation lunar cycle' for its inevitable return to solar system P4A1.L

I'd rather play many games from different genres than feel stuck to one massive MMO. And besides, no matter how much they change EVE, I doubt I will like it. I've tried it twice on separate occasions with separate people and it just doesn't grab me I think i'm just after games with less commitment issues... Bring on L4D2 and COD:MW2! The only MMO i'm looking forward to is APB... An MMO with no leveling. In fact.. I admit my experience with MMO's is only post-WOW MMOs.. Are there *mainstream* MMORPGS where leveling doesn't play such a big part in the game?

Never played it myself.. But upcoming MMO "APB" (basically GTA online) has no leveling.. It's skill based.. Everyone has equal chance (as long as your hand/ eye & driving coordination is good).. And that's something I'd like to see more in Massively multiplayer online games..

Skill based MMO? Galaxies wannabe The <only> MMO i am holding out for is The Old Republic. And before you start the "omg star wars ghey", i will say this now; It's the only MMO that is potentially a good enough game to beat WoW.

Skill based MMO's have been around and SWG was great in the old days. Anyway to Eve and particularly Kris. The tutorial holds your hand a lot longer than it used, (if you want it to) The main start tut takes about 15/20 mins to complete then you can go and do your own thing if you wish straight away. However you can now go and see 3 mission givers, Military, Industry and Business and each of these has 10 missions to do for beginners. You can do all of them too!!!!. The missions give loads of ISK, you get given at least three ships to generate more ISK. You also get loads of equipment to add and lots of the training books to learn too. I have done 9 of the 30 available and have over 600k ISK now and 3 ships. In short the game is still complex but they haven't just dumped in space and left you to wallow around on your own anymore. Good first impressions. Oh and Barnett, Easy Going Clan are in it, so there are people to play with that we already know.

But you are already a starwars fan, ergo, you must be bias towards the game.. Each to their own.... But I honestly don't see any 'big & succesfull' MMO in the near future being totally different from WOW.. Mainly because as a business they set out to make money and they know that Blizzard make a shitload off wow because of the way it's been developed.. I hope i'm wrong though.I hope in late 2010/ early 2011, The Warhammer 40k MMO will be excellent enough to pull me in and <beat> WOW (as you put it).. It seems only the MMO's based on existing IP's can do that

Si, go actually read up on The Old Republic, then come back. I mean, your doing that "greebo si" thing, whereby you assume i only think it's gonna be any good because its Star Wars, and not because i have read up on it, watched lots of videos and tried to understand how the games gonna play. At the same time, you claim i'm bias - so, you're not bias by "assuming" its not gonna live up to much, cause you don't like star wars?.....hypocricy anyone? Barnett - since EvE was £2.99 on steam (inc 30 days play time) and because Rik said he was actually enjoying it, i bought it last night. I mean, i have spent more than that on iPhone apps on the app store. So even if after 30 days i choose not to stick at it, i lost....£3? Anyways, i read about the upgraded front end that actually shows you how to play the game instead of just dropping you into a world of unknown, a couple of months back. So i'll give that a go and see how it is.

I never said I'm not Bias Stuart I assume i *WON'T* like the game because it's based on Star Wars - I've watched star wars films and thought they were rubbish. Any idea can see that.. I assume I wouldn't like a Spongbob Squarepants tshirt because I don't like spongebob squarepants!.. It's really simple.. You just like turning everything into an argument Probably because you think i'm using "bias" as a negative word.. Which i'm not.. All fans of Star Ware will be BIAS FOR it, all people who think it sucks (inc. me) are Bias against it... Only if you've never seen/ heard of it can you not be persuaded one way or another.. It may be different if they didn't use a Star Ware Moniker - But even then it'd be advertised as a space based MMO which again would strike up little interest in me. Anyway, this thread is about EVE, so let's keep it that way
