Couple of videos, first footage released. Star Trek ;D ;D ;D Debut TrailerAll in-game footage, none rendered, it's cryptic employees playing in the office and they recorded it. Looks like we'll be flying ships, ship-to-ship combat, and also on the ground/inside a ship fighting too. www.gametrailers.com/player/38183.htmlConvention footageLeonard Nimoy at the recent Star Trek convention talking for like 2 minutes, then the chief creative officer talking, it's a bit epic at 43 mins, but it's all good, lots of cool info on the game. www.gametrailers.com/player/38185.htmlStar Trek Online looks like it has a lot of potential, lets hope they don't fuck it up! It isn't going to be very far away, either. Theres ship combat, ground combat, exploration, diplomacy, competing for resources. At launch, you can either join starfleet or the klingon empire. They plan to add more after launch, the dominion etc. Ships interior will be like "social space" for you and your buddies. As you see in the debut trailer, ships can be boarded too! Guilds will be "fleets". Fleets can build satellites, spacestations, shipyards, alsorts - a lot of stuff can only be done in fleets, so it pays to be in one.

I fail to remember any ground/ship interior combat, exploration or diplomatic gameplay in EvE. I just remember it being about getting constantly killed by Giant Elite Russian Corporations™.

I had my main house in SarDuKar, and my aptly named "Avaraan's Secret IRA Weapons Bunker" south of the city, full of Jedi Food, crystals and Saber materials, as i used to level my Jedi near there and should a Bounty Hunter arrive for me, i ran straight for the bunker, always set to private of course

I fail to remember any ground/ship interior combat, exploration or diplomatic gameplay in EvE. I just remember it being about getting constantly killed by Giant Elite Russian Corporations™. you would only see the badass corps if you invaded their territory. or noobed yourself by landing straight into the mouths of corporate enemys / pirates. but thats part of the game. the diplomatic element is a huge part of eve (socially with other players). constructing alliances / fighting wars and discussing corportaion polictics. Its all there. Eve has many plans for planetary exploration and 'walking around ships' but these have allways fallen wayside to the fact that much of the eve universe still remains unoccupied. I would like to play star trek online, i hope its good but with eve being my most played MMO, im not going to be nice to it just because its 'star trek'. Its about time EvE got a decent looking space based contender. This could step up the pace for even better Space based mmo's (a good thing as far as im concerned). All in all i thank ye for the news and I await the trials with anticipation

At the moment, it's 1 player per ship as far as space flight/combat is concerned. There may be plans in the future for several people operating a ship (different stations etc, a captain, navigation, engineering, weapons etc), but its a logisitical knightmare for the devs, and they've shelved it for the time being, and rightly so i believe.
As far as ground combat is concerned, obviously your buddies can come aboard your ship for social reasons, and help defend it if enemy players board it (or you guys are boarding an enemy player ship). And then landing on planets, from what i saw/heard is a squad-affair, several of you go down for exploration/combat/whatever they have in mind.
All in all, it just sounds promising. There's clearly a hostilitynow between the Klingons and the federation, hence the PvP war. Sounds fun.
They also mentioned re: exploring, the point in the game its set in, about 30 years after Nemesis, there's an entire quadrant of the galaxy they now have access to that is unexplored. So there will be a lot to discover.
They've mentioned making first contact with other races, some pre-warp, having hostilities with newly discovered races, and even having npc crew members aboard your ship from a race perhaps you discovered and brought into starfleet/the klingon empire.

Eve did have exploration and diplomacy... It was shit. i disagree. these are the exact elements that kept me coming back for more. discovering new asteriod belts, mining it with the corp and then destroying any attacking ships on the way - while being a tiny list of the things you can do in Eve it was still nothing short of fantastic

Multiple players controlling one entity is not impossible. Tanks in 'OstFront' had a separate driver, gunner and spotter. Having multiple people controlling a space craft however, in an infinate void of nothingness, would potentially be so boring that everyone involved in playing the game would commit mass suicide! That's the *real* reason it's not included! Here's hoping for RED DWARF ONLINE!

What is they got rid of the startrek bullshit (which, lets be honest, is only there to sell the game), and call it "fucking hard viking bastards in space, exploring, raping and conquering planets" - -Would it appeal more to you Oz? Obviously taking out the bad tacky startrek uniforms and replacing them with cool space-age power armour and rockets!

Wooooh! Harsh words Stu, being compared to excrement is a new one! Must´ve been a pretty sturdy shite with all that text you managed to type. =P I have never and will never like the aestethics of Star Trek, there is nothing appealing at all to me. And therefore I will not play it. Simple.

Oz...
Any chance you can change your sig man.. bit hard to open the forums with those things pointing at everyone in my office.. either that or does anyone know if I can hide sigs?
Don't get me wrong - they are a fine tasty sight to be sure, but also nsfw which the rest of the site is!
As for Star Trek - I'm also a fan, and I would consider this. That said, I'm a LOTR fan and I didn't even bother with that MMO because it was awful.
Star Trek has unlimited scope which is nice, and some genuinely diverse and cool enemies.
