I'll see how I feel about L4D at the time -- I only play versus though.. The co-op campaign mode holds little appeal these days. Re Stuart: FFS. "dirty dog" and "dirt bag" is all I've gotten off people! About Fallout, The first hour is nothing. The games roughly 80 hours long, and the first hour of that is just hand holding and scene setting - Once a few towns are explored, and the story starts to piece together, it gets interesting. Also, visually the starting "area" of the game is very dull. Re Barnett: Iron sights are OK.. It depends on the gun. Some are awful, some are great -- I have no weapon mods yet (Scopes, etc). I still use VATS a lot as the "real time combat" in the game is pretty bad -- Underneath it's "FPS" mask, it's still an RPG that calculates stats in the background.. So I get annoyed when I shoot a guy in the head and he's STILL running after me. Manchester was "ok". We didn't really know where anything was. I forget where we went on the first night after the gig.. But on the second we ended up in a place called "Moho live" -- Propoganda club night.. It was ok. I have no deep rooted desire to return there anytime soon though A gig in a Catherderal: Funny, that sounds exactly like you and Medal of Honour; first 2 missions are average, then it gets awesome. And you never went back to give it the chance. I, however, am a bigger man than that, and will give Vegas another hour of my time to convince me it's worth not giving away in disgust...

It's about relativity Stuart.
A game that lasts 6 six hours should have me hooked in under one!
As I stated, New Vegas is approximately an 80 hours long (when you complete all six quests).. It's also none-linear and has more complex gameplay mechanics than a the average FPS, so I think my statement holds true.
But hey, if you don't like New Vegas, don't feel you have to waste you time on it.. I certainly wouldn't -- Life's too short to waste on shit like that.

I like epic, gripping storylines (see recent examples; Reach, Castlevania), if this grabs me, then awesome.
But so far, i'm just looking for a guy in a suit....
....wooo....

Really Stuart, Really? Just looking for a guy in a suit? *facepalm* That *guy in a suit* shot you in the head and buried you in a shallow grave. Why? What was he after? Why's it so important? Who does he work for? There's many more questions and answers to search for.. it's just that it's an open game story, so you're not hand held throughout the entire affair. Also...

this is so true about fallout: "you're not hand held throughout the entire affair."
I played an hour of Halo Reach single player and currently have no desire to go back (i probably will eventually). It just felt so scripted I might has well have been watching a movie :/
different strokes for different folks i guess.

Don't get me wrong Barnett - Scripted games can be great! I can't imagine an open world Portal game.. or any RTS that's open world But the attraction of Fallout is getting side-tracked... I frequently find myself on my way to do a quest, when a building in the distance catches my eye.. I investigate and uncover another 5 quests and loads of loot

Yea si, those questions are interesting, but its how you engage the player around those questions.
I'm not feeling engaged.
I like exploration in like mmo's and stuff. But there's a fine line for me between exploring and boring time sink bland landscapes...to find another town that looks like the last one...

i think you can summarise it like this:
* do you like exploring?
* are you creative?
if the answer to both of those = yes then enjoy playing minecraft and fallout. ;D

Mostly a fair point, but last time I played WoW it was Pre-fab city -- limited building geometry with slightly different textures. You knew you're way around every inn, because they were mostly the same... I've only come across a few of the same buildings in Fallout so far, so exploring is fun. As for the landscape, yeah.. it's true it's "samey".. I guess there's only so much you can fit into a desert though -- The city of New Vegas livens that up though Can't wait to get to Hoover Dam One of the things I like in these RPGs recently (Dragon Age, Fallout, Witcher.. Mass Effect 2 to a lesser extent) is that EVERYTHING I do has an effect on how people perceive me and what's going to happen in the story. To me the MMOs feel like boring timesinks, as NOTHING I personally do is going to have any major affects on where the story goes.

Usually these disagreements would end in screen fisted rage with added STFU. I have to say i quite enjoy posting here now without fear of unnecessary repercussions consisting of "OMGWTFLULZ BARNETT TIME NOOB" which were sometimes just because of a typo. maybe one day terry will pay for a teamspeak server too? Halo Hogs will be flying by then of course Just an observation... carry on.
