haha... Thank goodness that Shopto.net has a price guarantee! They've just taken my £15 and are processing my order, hopefully to ship it today or tommorow. Also, I know Terry has pre-ordered it. Barnett - Check out this "Settlers 7 Engine" video:

I'm sat in a day long "strategy meeting" in a spiritual centre (lol?). Sell thus game to me - why do I want to preorder? I don't THINK this is your type of game, but as you've enquired, I will try my best:. If you're after a game where you build up a huge army and send it to battle - this is not the game for joo - If you're after a slower paces game where you have to carefully think about how to build up a settlement and create proper supply lines to maintain your army, priests or economy then this is for you. I'd recommened trying the free demo first - It allows multiplayer, single player and free mode play. The nearest thing to compare it to is: AGE OF EMPIRES -- More about maintaining a stable economy to win rather than churning out units -- Infact, Blue Byte hired the main guy from Ensemble Studios (they made AoEs) when his company went bust as a consultant to the game design. Here's some blurb from a website selling the game: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - Variety of gameplay: Gamers are able to choose the best path to lead their kingdom to victory around three main pillars:
# Military - by building strong armies and defeating opponents with shear military power. # Science - by increasing their influence in the monasteries, gamers are able to have access to the most beneficial technologies. # Trade - by occupying the best trade routes to become the wealthiest player on the map.
- Depending on each style of play, gamers are able to unlock a variation of new and unique possibilities, changing the way they build their own kingdom.
- An innovative victory system: New victory point system brings more tension and competition to the game. Victory points are awarded in many different ways depending on the choices gamers make throughout the evolution of their kingdom.
- Online multiplayer: Gamers are able to play online and face opponents in classic adversarial and co-op teamplay modes. Online features include user-generated and downloadable content, in-game feeds, and various leaderboards.

LOL its hard to sell it from my point of view... im taking a gamble. let me explain... me, si and andy last year tried a few settlers games 'acquired' over teh web but it was difficult trying to get multiplayer working although when we did it was fun (ill never forget andys rampage, he totally pwned us time and time again but it was LOL). Also, i had the original settlers on the amiga which i loved, since this is the 7th version of the game i figure hey its a bout time i bought it again. So yeah i got the demo and it diddnt just feel like another settlers clone with some extra stuff, it felt like a new game. Multiplayer was near instantanious... unlike some other games i've tried latley im sure drummer si will fill you in on the specifics... EDIT: Drummer si did! DOUBLE EDIT: actually, the victory point system might swing it for you stuart. think of it like this. settlers 7 is to bad company 2... as ...red alert is to Modern warfare

The victory point system is pure win. You can technically win the game by simply having the most priests and conducting research for technological gains for example - This would earn victory point... .. But then, your enemy could choose the military route, steamroll through your city and technically take them off you

Seems a router problem, or possibly his ISP blocking stuff! Just mental! I'll play with you tonight! Stu, Terry & I played against the computer last night, Terry crashed half way through, whilst Stu & I worked togethor to battle the evil forces of Zoé! Stu attacked her settlement, forcing ehr to send her army to defend her castle, whilst I nipped round the back and stole the last victory point! It was some epic team work!
