I've followed this closely.
The bottom line is; Don't ever work with Activision.
History has repeated itself. In 2003, the guys left EA after MoH:AA to setup Infinity Ward and sign up with Activision, and released Call of Duty.
They've now left Activision and setup a new studio, Respawn Entertainment, and setup with EA.
EA and Activision have had a bit of a role reversal in the last few years, with Activision being the evil empire now. Seriously, google some of Bobby Kotick's legendary quotes on how to run a gaming business, "taking the fun out of games development" "running a business by fear" etc.
Activision deserve everything they get!
They over-saturated the Guitar Hero market until the bottom fell out - i guarantee they will do the same with CoD...
