How very subjective of you Stuart. Well, I guess someone here has to take your opinion seriously! Anyone? You hate any game you didn't discover ;D Thi is getting really boring now Stu. Your perceived level of intelligence is dropping with every post you make...Cos that's just the most stupid remark you've ever made. I believe it was you who "discovered" Rainbow Six: Vegas - I FUCKING LOVE THAT GAME! It just happens that the games you discover usually do NOT fit my tastes. On a side note: Rumours have it that... ell, not rumours.. The lead guy at Activision says they are looking into a Call of Duty MMO.. But it's VERY EARLY DAYS.

Can't be any worse than running around as a Mage casting spells at the same things for 70 levels eh?

Can't be any worse than running around as a Mage casting spells at the same things for 70 levels eh? The CEO of Activision Blizzard said at a conference that, in realistic terms, no MMO will rival WoW, or be able to rival WoW in any real capacity, unless it gets investment to the degree of about 1 billion dollars. I can probably dig out the link if anyone's interested. 1 billion! who can realistically rally that kinda money? No-one. Good job WoW happens to be the dog's nik-nak's too then, doesn't it? ;D

I also read that $1 dollar figure
WOW is bad for gaming. period.. Yeah.. It's the best MMO i've ever played (even if you do the same things everytime you play), yeah it has huge amount of players.
But the worse thing is because it's so popular, other game companies are trying to copy it.. This is halting the production of new, original games and making the MMO market flooded with crappy medieval/ fantasy style games!
Bring on Warhammer 40k MMO! Something new! Something New could easily wipe the floor with WOW... But these fantasy MMOs don't stand a chance.
Some executive at a Games company has to have the balls and talent to green light a good original idea!
-EDIT: Removed personal opinions of WOW, as it detracted from the main point

No No No No No No No No.
Wow has market dominance because it perfected what was there before and polished it beyond what anyone thought possible.
As soon as something even remotely original comes along we will see a steady migration of like minded players and market share will diversify.
And of course a blizzard exec is going to say no one can compete, they don't *want* anyone to compete! For the most part, I reckon were about 2 years of improved telecomunications infrastructure away from some super hot highly interactive action based MMO's potentially along the lines of a COD MMO recreating huge multi stage multi location battles.
Say it aint so.

I see your point Fal... I personally welcome a new MMO... But what i've seen and played recently are MMOs that are just trying to re-create that WoW success. I'm personally looking forward to the Conan MMO- Mainly because it's promising a lot of new features that sound intreaging - I don't for one second think it'll hit WOWs successful numbers though. I think a good WARFARE based MMO, recreating HUGE battles with hundres...no, THOUSANDS of people fighing online on a persistent world map is well called for

I think a good WARFARE based MMO, recreating HUGE battles with hundres...no, THOUSANDS of people fighing online on a persistent world map is well called for Already exists, it was called Planetside. In it's golden age, it did have thousands of people fighting battles in an online persistant world, but no-one has tried to better it since. I played Planetside just before it started to decline, and it was superb. What Rob says is correct - the reason for WoW's success is 2 fold, the first being that WoW simply took all the MMO ideas that had come before it, whether they were done well or badly, and polished them to the point of perfection. It then integrated it's own rich lore and story into this "highly polished" MMO structure. Et Voila!

Exactly!
I still think WoW is awesome, it became stagnant for me due to pure imbalance, a lack of content and worst of all, the randomisation of raiding. What I mean by this is that encounters became chance based instead of skill. Mob is on 5% something stupid and uncontrollable wipes the raid = not fun.
The next mmo I'll play will be
1. Highly skill based (semi - full twitch)
2. Economy based
3. Minimal grinding - low repitition
4. Massive (wow is too linear, I miss wandering out into nothing in SWG)
5. Will have bounty hunters again...
6. PvP fights will be longer lasting, more interactive and depend purely on who holds concentration the longest and does the rigth things. If players need to pull out a damn chess board to decide who wins then so be it! It should take 20 seconds of un interupted attacking just to kill a player who isn't defending. Fight length should be 1 min at the least.
7. Epic pvp & pve battles. Ragnarok was the only really epic cool boss fight in wow. They need more of that. Alterac vally was the only non world based pvp that was epic, and it turned into stagnant grinding - no fun at all. World pvp in Tarren mill was cool, but guards ruined it eventually. More of this sort of thing please.
8. Other stuff...

Well Mr Fal Conan Online seems to be for you. It's combat system is skill based (not just putting 3 DOTs onto people).. But actually deciding which direction to swing your sword and move your shield - Work sthe same for projectiles and magic somehow Less grind, more quests - Including lots of Class specific quests And PvP fighting involves massive battles, take and holding towns (that are player built).. Mounted combat, seige weapons and much more

Title = BF2142 Revival Topic of conversation = WoW Title = Hmmmm (Chatting about NFL) Topic of conversation = WoW Do all roads lead to WoW But seriously, WoW is without a doubt one of the best games and marketing ideas ever, you just can't dispute that one bit. My main query to the guys still playing it is why are you still playing it? Surely doing your 7th or 8th character to lvl 70 cannot be fun anymore? CAN IT? I did equate my time in WoW more to a bad habit than an enjoyable past time and trying out that toy server the other month just confirmed that to me. What is it that keeps you guys playing Ticks/Stu/Iain/Andre/Terry/Lorcan? Oh and I reinstalled BF2142, but I still have the shitty EA Downloader issues and can't play the game so in hindsite i won't play that either Roll on R6 2 for a new game for me

I agree there Rik
Creating my hunter and getting him to 70 was fun
But no matter what other class, race, or faction I created.. It just wasn't as much fun the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time round. It just got repetative.
I'm guessing Stu will say he likes the story or something. But meh.

I'm guessing Stu will say he likes the story or something. But meh. Each to their own? I don't enjoy putting my hand into blenders, but if someone says they do, good luck to them! Just cause i don't like it doesn't make it wrong... Simon likes lame games that end in the word "tycoon", which 90% of the time are bad. Quote: "But meh."

Try before you buy and cry cause you wasted £30 on a P-O-S game that will be bugged beyong belief and receive minimal after-sales support just like the original R6 and won't be a touch on CoD4's uberness. ....and relax.

Well I shall get it anyway as I'm not playing anything other than CoD4 at the moment anyway, so just to give me a change occasionally. Ohh tell a lie, I have had a few blasts on TF2 recently too, thats a nice little game, shame we never play it much.

Give me a rollercoaster to build and a theme park to make a profit on and i'll be happy R6 Vegas 2 is going to PISS all over Cod4, mainly cos it uses tactics! Talking of tactics, Man I want a new SWAT game!
