No details i'm afraid.
The developers confirmed they're working on it and speculated a release date of 2009/1010.
It will be epic in size and scale, and you will be able to explore "space hulks" (Warhammer 40K ships), but no other details have been divulged (as far as I know).
I'm just preying it's not simply "WoW in space", and they actually design new game mechanics that fit with with the IP.

EA today announched the development of a "Dungeon Keeper" MMO that you'll never get to play.

Played two games over the weekend - Mass Effect + Freelancer.
Mass effect got me thinking abotu Freelancer and then when I was hammered on Friday night I ended up going back and playing it. Might I say - never have two games been so pefectly pitched for a cross over / game merge. With the ground based and internal ship movement of mass effect, with the space combat - space flight and overal interaction of commodoty trading in Freelancer I really think they would go SUPERBLY together.

Also hope they put some interesting classes in there if they are going down the whole class based system route which i guess they will do as opposed to the skill based system of SWG, although skills based obviously gives more flexibility... Oh so much potential, just waiting to be ruined!

Mass Effect is simply awesome.
All who choose to deny this are weak and foolish.
Freelancer.....prefered Starlancer...

Mass Effect is simply awesome. All who choose to deny this are weak and foolish. Freelancer.....prefered Starlancer... Never played Starlancer - Loved freelancer. you could stock up your hulk with ore for transport or play soley as a fighter. Single player had a cool campaign and graphics were awesome for the time. The inter planetary flight system rocked and the game world was massive. Add that to the scope of planets and size of mass effect and truly a wonderful game experience could be had - esp with ship boarding etc.

Freelancer was set in the aftermath of Starlancer. Starlancer was my kind of space sim. Right up there with Freespace and Freespace 2. Basically, i loved the story and setting. Whereas most sci-fi takes the "unified earth" approach, Starlancer still featured nation-states and earth was far from unified. You see this in Freelancer, as you still have national territories, albeit in space, the "english" planets, "german planets" etc. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarlancerThere was the Western Alliance made up of Europe, Australia, Japan, USA, against the Eastern Coalition - Middle East, Russia, China, etc. The spaceships we're fucking cool and really looked like their national culture. Oh, and torpedo runs we're brilliant, trying to shoot torpedoes out of the sky before they hit your captial cruiser. Another aspect, one of the reasons i loved Freespace 1 and 2 so much also, was that despite you "finishing missions", be it successfully or otherwise, rather than the general campaign progressing well, the war effort generally became worse. In freespace 2, i have never played a game where my progress in the game was so downhill. Love it. On the receiving end of geneocide ;D Roll on Freespace 3 (if only) and Mass Effect 2...

Wow - looks nice.
Must have a look out for Starlancer. Similar aspect in Freelancer - you did have to shoot out incoming missles etc.
Best thing about it though was the travel and trade lanes, esp when Pirate fleets pull you out mid flight and you either destroy them or try and run to the next gate!

There's not much info about it because it's years away from completion -- The roadmap, pictured above, has it marked as finantial year 2012.. So it's going to be a couple of years away at least... My guess is early-mid 2011.. Perhaps a summer release.
