Barnett, did they go into
Aero peak, touch screen awareness, improved codec support (including divX & apple ACC/ H.263), Snap windows + gestures, Jump lists, Improved UAC control, Remote desktop multi-monitor support, Ability to mount disk images and Virtual hard drives natively, Reduced memory footprint, stripped of "bloatware" apps (which MOST people will just reinstall straight away anyway), IIS7 (in certain SKUs), Improved volume mixer, media streamer playback (Awesome feature, tell your Windows computer to force playback on any compatible device connected to the network.. IE/ An Xbox360), Universal colour calibration tool, Ability to uninstall nearly everything in Windows (Including IE8).
There's some good stuff in there...
The media hype is rather annoying though.

"Aero peak, touch screen awareness, improved codec support (including divX & apple ACC/ H.263), Snap windows + gestures, Jump lists, Improved UAC control, Remote desktop multi-monitor support, Ability to mount disk images and Virtual hard drives natively, Reduced memory footprint, stripped of "bloatware" apps (which MOST people will just reinstall straight away anyway), IIS7 (in certain SKUs), Improved volume mixer, media streamer playback (Awesome feature, tell your Windows computer to force playback on any compatible device connected to the network.. Most of the list wasn't copy/pasted... I ran out of features half way through though (bad memory) and dug up a digg article for the rest. Why change a user interface if it doesn't need changing? Win95/98/ME all used the same UI, Mac OS has uses the same UI since 2000 and Ubuntu Linux has used the same UI since the dawn of time. If it works, leave it... Just tweak it. It took you 2 years to get a Laptop working well? In that case DONT use Win7 or Vista.. In fact, you shouldn't be using a computer at all! uses the same wallpaper? what? May I suggest the following site for PROPER Windows news www.winsupersite.com/ ... Not the BBC

Not the BBC hah... your personal attacks on my laptop mean nothing. the problems ive overcome are all documented issues that can found on the fujitsu-siemens forums. however i have the time nor patience to educate you in the details but i shall say this... For every problem i had to which they couldnt fix, I REIGNED SUPREME THROUGH RESILIENCE AND AWESOMENESS. so kindly STFU now... regarding the whole UI issue with vista. wasnt that the big selling point of vista over other OS's? the fact that you could waste more cpu cycles by dragging windows around with a real-time glass effect underneath? If the average joe goes "huh, it looks the same" then im sorry, M$ have already failed. no one will buy it. All these features should be an update to Vista, cos no-ones going to buy it when they can still play all their games and run all the apps they currently use quite well now that the dust has settled on the last so called 'update'.

Well, I obviously don't know how bad your laptop sucks, maybe next time you'll buy a PROPER computer As for Windows 7... Joe public will buy it for a number of reasons: 1. All new Windows computers will come with Win7 2. Media hype The media is generally waxing lyrical about how fast Win7 is compared to Vista and how compatibility is at an all time high. My observations however are: - Of course compatabilty is better, It's basically Windows Vista v2, and has had 18 months to improve compatibility on existing products. - Windows7 seems blinding fast because it's generally operating on computers system of a higher spec than used when Vista first came out, also Window7 ships with VERY LITTLE software installed... Messenger/ photo galley/ video editor/ a simple mail client - All of these have to be installed separately ... I don't know if that's purely a Microsoft decision or the EU courts "forced" them. I guess there's also the 64bit factor.. People must realise it's time to switch.. I switched to Vista64 at the end of last year with ZERO problems and a lot of new computers will come 64bit as standard... Win7 is supposedly very stable in 64bit mode

Barnett's right.
Look at M$'s usual method of doing things when they update any software, be in msn messenger or IE. They always change the fucking layout, the general UI, to make it appear different.
The Graphical enhancements made to the vista front end was a major selling point for them over XP.
Win 7 in that video looked identical, i mean literally, to vista. Thats gonna put a lot of people who aren't savvy to computers off straight away.

You do seem to have an unhealthy association with microsoft sometimes though si. you get really defensive. There has to be someting you hate about microsoft and I demand you share it with us immediately or forever be known as a fanboi :-)

It's not that I love MS, it's that I hate other people being wrong or mis-informed about facts.. So, when I try and inform I get accused of fan-boy-ism I'd even get defensive over Apple when people say my iPhone sucks because it can't send MMS messages.. Due to that I sent Stu an MMS on my iPhone telling him he sucks.. People just don't do there research and MS is easy to hate, just as Google is easy to love (even though they're complete bastards) What I hate about MS... lets see... File transfers in MSN are slow File transfers in operating systems dont resume if an error occurs IE8 needs proper CSS3 support and a built in download manager. IE8 interface FUCKING SUCKS! Network settings in Vista are hidden under too many menus (Whilst this is great for noobs - roughly 80% of the planet - it sucks for me) MS Vista Price made me , but comparable Mac OS system is the same price.. Linux is Free, but i'd still CHOOSE to pay for MS OS than have free linux.. It's just a better designed system with easier to use interface.. one problem... Security in MS OS's is lame. User accounts can be bypassed, all apps run with admin priviledges (until Vista), etc ..I do keep with the latest MS advancements though, as my job involves mainly using microsoft apps/ programming languages & servers.

I love how to goalposts on Apple have moved since you got that iDouche Firstly I must applaud you for coming up with genius names such as iDouche - That is fucking amazing. seriously. Secondly, i'm able to judge the product irrelevant of it's 'marketing company'. Thirdly (great timing), my boss just asked to borrow my phone to configure a wireless router. True, this could have been done on a windows mobile too. If you look past the Apple marketing machine, the iPhone is very good. Better than any windows phone i've seen. The only advantage any Windows mobile has over iPhone is that they're open and can run x86 binaries. The iPhone can be automatically (and safely) jailbroken these days to use non-verified apps.. Which I might do to play Monkey island on it when out and about

I prefer iPhag, to be honest.
Windows mobiles are cool, because if you know what you're doing, you can do shitloads with them.
Symbian was also cool, though i think i prefer windows mobile.
Not tried Android.
