Not really. I loved how you plucked these things out the air for the alleged decline of gaming - superb! EA? Sure, they're whores, but, erm, hello? They innovate too? Dead Space? This new free-to-play Battlefield model? Crysis and all that ilk? WoW can be alleged to have hurt gaming, but flip it around - it's got some people gaming who perhaps never otherwise would have. I know people who haven't played/don't play anything else. And piracy? Maybe i guess. There are people who "try before they buy", though, and then buy software they may not have otherwise. Anyways....I believe YOUR shipment of FAIL has well and truely arrived I think I might ban large typeset of words like FAIL / FAILED / PWNED then you will force us to go deeper into the realms of 'PwN4G3' . heed this warning. i dont like using numbers and letters together! If i'm forced i'll have no alternative! ;D

I have sheltered myself from the hype for that, too, and having just watched the Gametrailers HD review.... www.gametrailers.com/player/33327.html....all i can say is "zomg". Need some co-op/multiplayer asap! ;D

I'm gonna order my Xbox360 + GTA IV tonight You can grab the files off me if you like.. BUT I have the OLD beta files.. So when you get them you'll still need to download 8gb of updates from within the client! If Terry has the new beta files, you're better off getting them off him. Just a simple question Stuart: Were you ever a fan of the older GTA products?

But yeah, i have been a fan. Stu's GTA history facts; - I have been a fan since the original GTA, i played it mulitplayer over serial connection with my bro! - I own every GTA game, on multiple formats (PC, PS1, PS2, soon-to-be 360). - My favourite GTA game has, and probably will always be, Vice City. - In GTA 3, i loved the Chatterbox radio station so much, cause it made me laugh, i lay in bed for 50 minutes with the game paused on that radio station listening to the whole station track - The classical music station and the 80's metal radio stations rule. - I own a couple of GTA soundtrack CD's. Own as in BOUGHT! ;D

I played the original GTA over the telephone lines (NOT the internet)
It was awesome.. 2 was good (but more of the same).
GTA 3 was awesome!!! Vice city was more awesome! San Andreas was fucking awesome (although the setting was less cool than Vice City).. and GTA IV looks like OMGWTFCoachBBQ!

In fact, i hardly played it, wasn't too keen. I just wasn't down with being a brother, yo.

Have been trying to answer this thread for around three days and no word of a lie i've been too busy to finish the post.
In anycase:
WoW's effect on market:
Has led to numerous developers switching to MMO style projects which have longer lead times and greater development costs.
Lead times: Games in general are taking a lot longer to make and are costing way more money. When money is involved creativity always always suffer as guys who have huge potential for creating fun games, but no or low qualifications and little relevent market exposure are ignored.
Visuals: Like summer blockbusters, games are going for big and flashy. This accounts for much of the game requirements and detracts from areas such as:
Gamemplay Longevity Ingenuity
As a result, games are looking better and better, but have little lasting memory other than they made water look real, or decapitations allow blood trails etc etc.
We used to remember games for the way they made us feel. Now we remember for the way they look, and as cool as it is at the time, its way less memorable.
There is a lot more to this discussion, but I don't blame wow for gaming difficulties. I blame a shift towards visuals, a reluctance by developers to try new things at the cost of visuals, a general shift away from certain game types and an overall saturation of basic ingenuity when it comes to new game elements.
Look at the wii - first console to really do something new. Is amazingly successful.
Bring that sort of effect to the PC and you will have some sure fire hits.

I agree with most of your statements there... But not all games go through that cycle.. Take GTA IV for example.
Took 4 years a make, Cost around $100m.. It's graphically shiny.. But apparently still is one of the best games of recent times - Because it's well designed, well written and basically well programmed.
I do agree on your point about copy-cat WOW games though - They all want a piece of that pie.. But there's only so much pie.. And Blizzard has it all.
You're right about the Wii though.
